Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has donated 31 operational Hilux vehicles to security agencies in the state as part of measures to strengthen security operations and improve the protection of lives and property.
The governor made the donation on Friday during the Democracy Day celebration held at the Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki, where he urged security personnel to remain committed, professional, and impartial in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
While presenting the vehicles to various security formations, Nwifuru said the intervention was aimed at enhancing mobility, rapid response, and crime prevention across Ebonyi State.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies with the necessary resources to maintain peace and safeguard communities in the state.
The governor also disclosed that the state government had invested in modern security infrastructure, including drones and digital surveillance equipment, to help security operatives monitor threats and respond effectively to criminal activities.
“We have committed significant resources to providing security equipment and operational vehicles because protecting lives and property remains a major responsibility of government,” Nwifuru said.
According to him, the newly acquired vehicles are part of a wider security strategy designed to improve operations across Ebonyi’s 13 local government areas.
Nwifuru praised the efforts of security agencies operating in the state, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Correctional Service, and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
He said their collaboration and dedication had contributed to the relative peace currently experienced in Ebonyi State.
The governor recalled that the state faced security challenges when his administration came into office in May 2023 but noted that cooperation between security agencies, government, and residents had helped improve the situation.
He also encouraged security officers to remain focused despite political activities and allegations that may arise ahead of future elections.
“This is a political period, and there may be allegations from different quarters. I urge you to remain professional and continue to discharge your duties without fear or favour,” he stated.
Nwifuru further appreciated Ebonyi residents, especially youths, for supporting security initiatives and promoting peace across the state.
He assured that the state government would continue to strengthen security institutions through improved funding, equipment, and technology.
