A member of the House of Representatives, Chinedu Ogah, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, following his recent comments about Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru.
Ogah, who represents the Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, questioned the basis of Cubana Chief Priest’s criticism of the governor and also raised questions about the socialite’s source of income.
In a video circulating online, the lawmaker challenged Cubana Chief Priest’s credentials and questioned why he would publicly criticise the Ebonyi State governor.
“Who is Cubana Chief Priest? What does he do for a living? Who gave him the audacity to speak against the Ebonyi State Governor?” Ogah asked.
The federal lawmaker went further to call for an investigation into the businessman’s financial activities, alleging that his affairs should be scrutinised by the EFCC.
Ogah’s comments come amid a growing public conversation over the performance of the Ebonyi State Government and the level of infrastructural development recorded under Governor Francis Nwifuru.
The controversy followed recent remarks by Cubana Chief Priest in which he called on Governor Nwifuru to resign.
The socialite questioned the governor’s achievements after almost three years in office, particularly the absence, in his view, of major projects in Ebonyi State commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or other state governors.
Cubana Chief Priest also criticised the pace of development in the state, claiming that Ebonyi was lagging behind other states in the South-East.
He questioned the leadership approach in the state and alleged that political leaders had failed to move beyond outdated methods of governance.
His remarks triggered reactions from supporters of the governor and other political stakeholders, including Ogah, who strongly rejected the criticism.
The lawmaker also alleged that Cubana Chief Priest was among individuals attempting to discredit the developmental efforts of President Bola Tinubu in the South-East.
Ogah did not provide specific evidence in the comments contained in the video to support the allegation.
The development has added to the ongoing political debate in Ebonyi State, where Governor Nwifuru’s administration has continued to face both support and criticism over its policies, projects and development agenda.
While Cubana Chief Priest’s comments focused largely on the state of infrastructure and governance, Ogah’s response shifted attention to the socialite’s background, financial activities and alleged political motives.
