The IYKON Global Foundation for Child, Youth Care and Human Rights Defence has announced plans to unveil its independent assessment of interventions and development projects carried out by the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ebonyi State Government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
The foundation said its findings are evidence-based and will provide citizens with verifiable information on government policies, projects and achievements.
The organisation’s founder and president, Ambassador Ephraim Ikechukwu Nwonu, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
Nwonu said the findings would be presented during a two-day workshop scheduled for September 7 and 8, 2026, in Abakaliki.
According to him, the assessment is aimed at giving residents access to credible information that can help them make informed decisions, particularly as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify.
Nwonu explained that the organisation would present its assessment of Federal Government interventions across the South-East, including infrastructure development and federal appointments.
He said the assessment would also cover projects, policies and programmes implemented by the Ebonyi State Government under Governor Francis Nwifuru.
The foundation stressed that the exercise was not politically motivated or intended to endorse any political party or candidate.
“We have our facts and figures,” Nwonu said, explaining that the organisation hoped the findings would help address misinformation and misconceptions surrounding the performance of the Tinubu administration.
The assessment comes amid increasing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, with supporters of the Federal Government and the Ebonyi State Government drawing attention to various infrastructure and governance initiatives.
Nwonu said Ebonyi was selected as the foundation’s pilot state for its South-East assessment following reports of significant development activities under the Nwifuru administration.
He explained that the organisation decided to conduct its own investigation rather than rely solely on claims about the governor’s achievements.
“We have been hearing a lot about how nice this governor is and everything. And we didn’t just want to conclude. That’s why we said, okay, let us come here and survey to see all those things we’ve been hearing that this governor has done,” he said.
As part of the exercise, the foundation visited all 13 local government areas in Ebonyi State to gather what Nwonu described as first-hand information about government projects and programmes.
The foundation’s president said its assessment would also examine whether the Tinubu administration had responded to longstanding concerns about marginalisation in the South-East.
He specifically mentioned federal infrastructure projects and appointments in the region, saying the organisation had documented relevant data and would make the figures available during the workshop.
Nwonu acknowledged concerns about poverty, inflation and the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians but said government interventions should also be examined when assessing the administration’s overall performance.
He highlighted agriculture as one area where he believed the Federal Government had introduced incentives aimed at encouraging young Nigerians to participate in the sector.
“Our youths, for instance, on agriculture, Mr President has done fantastically well. Our youths have been encouraged severely by a whole lot of incentives in that sector to prioritise agriculture,” he said.
Nwonu rejected suggestions that the foundation’s assessment amounted to political support for President Tinubu or Governor Nwifuru.
He maintained that the organisation remained non-partisan and was primarily interested in promoting good governance, transparency and accountability.
“We are non-partisan. Our responsibility is to ensure that we have good governance in place, which we know will rub off positively on the citizenry,” he said.
He added that members of the organisation, like other Nigerians, retained their constitutional right to support candidates of their choice during elections.
The September 7–8 workshop is expected to feature experts, professionals and resource persons who will examine different areas of governance, development and public administration.
Nwonu said IYKON Global Foundation would continue to operate as a watchdog for good governance, with its activities focused on accountability, transparency, human rights and improved public administration.
The organisation, established in 2009, has undertaken advocacy and humanitarian initiatives and collaborated with institutions, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), on issues relating to anti-corruption, transparency, security and good governance.
