The Ebonyi State Government has called on residents, farmers, landowners, and developers occupying the right-of-way of a 132KV power transmission line project to immediately vacate the area to allow for the safe and successful completion of the ongoing infrastructure.
The directive affects communities along the transmission corridor stretching from Mile 50 in Abakaliki through several local government areas, including Ebonyi, Ezza North, Ezza South, Onicha, and Afikpo in Afikpo.
According to the State Commissioner for Power and Energy, Chief Peter Ogeali, the warning became necessary due to the advanced stage of the project being handled by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which is constructing the 132KV power line to improve electricity supply across the state.
The statement noted that key components of the project, including tower installation and conductor stringing, are already ongoing. The government stressed that continued human activities within the designated transmission corridor pose serious risks to lives and property.
Residents in affected communities have been strongly advised to avoid all activities within the transmission Right-of-Way to prevent accidents and ensure uninterrupted project execution. The government also urged traditional rulers, town union leaders, and village heads to mobilize their communities for full compliance.
Officials emphasized that the project, implemented by Transmission Company of Nigeria, is a critical infrastructure development aimed at addressing long-standing power shortages in parts of Ebonyi State, boosting economic activities, and improving overall electricity distribution.
The state government further reiterated that the completion of the Abakaliki–Amasiri transmission line is expected to significantly enhance power stability and support socio-economic growth across the affected local government areas.
