A former President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos State, Solomon Aguene, has urged indigenes of Ebonyi State both at home and in the diaspora to unite behind Ifeanyi Odii ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ebonyi State
He made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting held over the weekend in Lagos, where political leaders and community representatives gathered to deliberate on the future of Ebonyi State politics and leadership direction ahead of the next election cycle.
Odii described as a transformational leader with proven capacity
Aguene described Odii as a credible and capable son of Ebonyi State who possesses the experience, integrity, and financial strength needed to drive meaningful development across the state.
According to him, the Ebonyi 2027 governorship race requires a leader with a strong development mindset and a track record of humanitarian impact, even without holding formal public office.
He emphasized that Odii has long demonstrated commitment to public service through personal initiatives that have supported education, healthcare, and youth empowerment across various communities in Ebonyi State.
Philanthropy and financial independence as key strengths
Aguene noted that one of Odii’s strongest advantages is his financial independence, which he believes will help reduce overdependence on public funds and improve service delivery if he becomes governor.
He argued that such independence would allow better management of state resources, ensuring that government funds are directed toward infrastructure, development projects, and citizens’ welfare.
“Ebonyi needs a governor who prioritizes the people. Chief Ifeanyi Odii has consistently used his resources to support communities, and that kind of mindset can help reduce corruption and improve governance,” he said.
The former Ohanaeze leader also stated that past and present governors of Ebonyi State have made contributions to development, but insisted that Odii has also positively impacted many lives across the state.
He further claimed that Odii has constructed over 140 houses for Ebonyi indigenes using high-quality materials sourced internationally, as part of his humanitarian outreach.
Aguene highlighted Odii’s strong business background and extensive network of local and international contacts as a major advantage for Ebonyi State’s economic growth.
He explained that such relationships could attract investors into key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and technology, ultimately creating jobs across all 13 local government areas of the state.
According to him, Odii’s exposure in business would help position Ebonyi as a more investment-friendly state capable of competing nationally and globally.
The stakeholders’ meeting also focused on the need for unity among political actors in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Aguene called on all political factions to prioritize the interest of the state over personal or zoning disagreements, stressing that leadership selection should be based on competence and capacity.
He further urged traditional rulers, youth groups, women organizations, and town unions to begin early mobilization in support of Odii’s political ambition.
He concluded by describing 2027 as a crucial opportunity for Ebonyi State to elect a leader with vision, integrity, and the financial and managerial capacity to deliver results.
Ifeanyi Odii, a businessman and philanthropist, has remained active in community development initiatives across Ebonyi State. He was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections and continues to engage in empowerment programs aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods in the state.
