2027 Elections: Ebonyi Lawmaker Urges Respect for Zoning Arrangement in Ebonyi South

Date:

A member of the House of Representatives representing the Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Chinedu Ogah, has called on political stakeholders in Ebonyi South Senatorial District to uphold the state’s zoning arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abakaliki, the federal lawmaker stressed the need for political actors to maintain the principles of equity, fairness, and inclusiveness that have shaped Ebonyi State’s power-sharing structure over the years.

Ogah warned that any move by politicians from Ebonyi South to challenge the current political leadership under Governor Francis Nwifuru could disrupt the political understanding that has helped preserve peace and stability in the state.

According to him, Ebonyi’s political system was founded on trust, rotational leadership, and the sacrifices of past leaders, including former governor Martin Elechi, who played a significant role in strengthening equity among the various zones in the state.

The chairman of the House Committee on Reformatory Institutions noted that while some Nigerian states have maintained political power within particular regions for many years, Ebonyi adopted a zoning formula aimed at promoting balance, justice, and collective progress.

He added that with the governorship position currently occupied by Ebonyi North Senatorial District, particularly the Izzi clan, political stakeholders should focus on supporting continuity and sustaining the achievements of the present administration rather than engaging in actions that could create political tension.

Ogah also cautioned against external interference in Ebonyi politics, stating that residents of the state remain committed to protecting political stability and safeguarding the collective interest of the people.

The lawmaker further appealed to party members, community leaders, and stakeholders across Ebonyi State to prioritize unity, sustainable development, and peaceful coexistence above personal political interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
