Date:

Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has responded to calls by his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) opponent, Chief Chikodiri Ojimba, asking him to step aside from the Ebonyi North senatorial contest ahead of the 2027 general election.

Nwebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North Senatorial District, advised Ojimba to concentrate on his business ventures, insisting that his achievements and political records have positioned him as the preferred choice of voters in the zone.

Speaking on the alleged agreement for a single-term senator in Ebonyi North, Nwebonyi dismissed the claim, challenging those making the assertion to provide evidence. He cited the tenure of former senator Samuel Egwu, who represented the zone for two ter

The senator said he would soon resume the inspection and commissioning of projects across the district after receiving clearance from Ebonyi State Governor, adding that the projects would further showcase his administration’s impact.

Highlighting his achievements, Nwebonyi claimed that he has attracted more than 400 kilometres of federal road projects across Ebonyi and neighbouring states, completed 10 kilometres of concrete roads, supported over 500 students through scholarships, and empowered thousands of farmers through agricultural interventions.ms, as proof that there is no binding arrangement limiting lawmakers from seeking re-election.

He described his representation as a new standard for Ebonyi North, saying his visibility at the national level and contributions to development projects distinguish him from previous lawmakers.

Reacting to Ojimba’s political ambition, Nwebonyi argued that legislative positions require experience and public service background, adding that the Senate should be occupied by individuals with proven records in their fields.

He noted that before entering politics, he had established himself as a lawyer with two decades of professional experience and insisted that politics should not be viewed as a means of personal enrichment.

On the 2027 elections, Nwebonyi expressed confidence in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, stating that the party has gained support due to ongoing federal and state government projects.

He also dismissed reports of division within the Izzi clan, describing the group as united and focused on supporting Governor Francis Nwifuru’s leadership.
