Hon. Iduma Igariwey, a prominent lawmaker representing Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency and Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, has expressed his firm support for Governor Francis Nwifuru’s APC-led administration in Ebonyi State—even as a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during the 70th anniversary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held at the Dr. Sam Egwu NUJ Press Centre in Abakaliki, Igariwey pointed to the prevailing peace and order in the state as his reason for supporting the government.
“My position on this state government is very well known. I am of PDP, but I support this government; I support it very vigorously. Let me use that word because I think they are following the right path,” he stated while addressing journalists at the event.
The seasoned legislator, who has served three terms in the National Assembly under the PDP, said the positive changes in the state motivated his attendance at the NUJ event.
“Time was when you would have invited me to this occasion, and I won’t be here. But I am here today because the atmosphere in the state is very peaceful, the area is calm, and people are free to go about their businesses,” he said.
Hon. Igariwey praised the NUJ for its unwavering role in promoting transparency and holding leaders accountable. He described the media body as the “conscience of Nigeria,” noting that without the union’s watchdog efforts, governance would fall short of its true potential.
In recognition of his outstanding performance in the National Assembly, the NUJ honored him during the ceremony.
