The Ebonyi State Police Command has initiated an investigation following a viral video showing an officer wielding a rifle during a dispute.
The video, which surfaced online, captures Inspector Obaji Ikechukwu, who was driving a tricycle, brandishing his firearm during an altercation with passengers. The incident occurred on Saturday along the busy Enugu-Abakaliki Road in Abakaliki, the state capital.
In a press statement on Monday, police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu condemned the officer’s actions, stating that they violated the ethics and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Nigeria Police Force. He confirmed that disciplinary measures had already been initiated.
Meanwhile, Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Anthonia Uche-Anya, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to upholding professionalism and maintaining discipline within the force. She emphasized that officers found guilty of misconduct would be held accountable.
