TETFUND Halts New Building Projects in 2025, Focuses on Infrastructure Upgrades

Date:

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) has announced that it will not finance the construction of new buildings in higher institutions during the 2025 fiscal year.

According to TETFUND’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, the agency will instead focus on rehabilitating aging infrastructure, improving student hostels, upgrading laboratory facilities, and enhancing power supply in institutions.

Speaking in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Thursday during the commissioning of three TETFUND-funded projects at Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Echono explained that the decision aligns with the federal government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The government has directed that the 2025 intervention funds for physical infrastructure be allocated to the comprehensive rehabilitation and modernization of existing structures. This decision was made due to the alarming level of decay in our institutions,” he stated.

“The aim is to create a more conducive learning environment that meets global standards. As a result, no new buildings will be funded under the 2025 TETFUND allocations.”

Since its establishment in 1999, Ebonyi State University (EBSU) has received over N12.3 billion in TETFUND support.
