IPAC Urges Ebonyi Governor to Strengthen Oversight of Appointees

Date:

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ebonyi State has highlighted the need for Governor Francis Nwifuru to enhance oversight of his political appointees. The council stressed that this step is critical for the effective delivery of the administration’s “People’s Charter of Need” agenda.

Mr. Ernest Nwanze, the council’s chairman, pointed out during a media briefing in Abakaliki that some commissioners and appointees either struggle with the demands of their offices or lack the capacity required for their roles. He urged the governor to ensure regular supervision to foster transparency and accountability in governance.

Nwanze also called for the establishment of an independent oversight body to monitor the execution of government projects and policies. While commending the governor’s ongoing developmental initiatives, he raised concerns over the slow pace of work on key projects, including the Vanco flyover. He encouraged contractors to adhere to project specifications and ensure timely delivery.

“The administration has recorded commendable progress, but IPAC notes a slow pace on some projects. We urge contractors to uphold quality and meet deadlines to avoid substandard outcomes,” Nwanze remarked.

He further lauded the successful implementation of the 2024 budget and expressed optimism for even greater strides in 2025. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of investigating empowerment schemes to ensure they benefit society’s most vulnerable groups.

IPAC reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the government to advance the state’s development goals.
