Local Government workers in Ebonyi State are set to receive all outstanding salaries and pensions following a stern directive from Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. The governor has given the chairmen of the state’s 13 Local Government Areas until 2 PM on Monday, December 23, 2024, to make the payments or step down.
The announcement was made on Sunday during the Elders and Widows’ Party hosted by the state government at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki.
Governor Nwifuru expressed deep concern over the delayed payments, describing the situation as troubling. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to good governance under the Chartered Needs Agenda and warned against any attempts to derail his efforts.
“All Local Government staff must receive their October and November salaries by 2 PM tomorrow,” he said. “If this is not done, the chairmen should resign immediately.”
In addition to addressing salary concerns, the governor approved the immediate distribution of ₦50,000, a 25kg bag of rice, and a wrapper to each of the 5,000 widows and elders present at the event.
