Ebonyi Government Reaffirms Commitment to USAID Reforms Ahead of 2025

Date:

The Ebonyi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the reforms introduced by USAID’s State2State Activity, ensuring their sustainability beyond the project’s conclusion in 2025.

At the recent State Transformation Committee (STC) Quarterly Review Meeting in Abakaliki, Professor Grace Umezuruike, Secretary to the State Government, highlighted the significant benefits of the State2State reforms in advancing the state’s development. Represented by Onu Nweze, a Permanent Secretary in her office, Umezuruike stressed that such a progressive and people-centered initiative would not be allowed to end without a clear path for its continuation.

USAID’s State2State Activity aims to strengthen governance structures in several Nigerian states, including Ebonyi. It focuses on enhancing planning, budgeting, revenue generation, civil society engagement, and service delivery in critical sectors such as health, education, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

Sam Onyia, the USAID State2State Team Lead for Ebonyi, with Nneka Egbuna, a Communication Specialist, emphasized the STC’s responsibility in ensuring the reforms endure. Onyia stressed the importance of maintaining improvements in areas like public financial management, procurement, audit reforms, debt management, and open government partnerships.

“The objective is to ensure that these transformative reforms remain embedded in Ebonyi’s governance system, bringing lasting development even after the State2State project concludes,” Onyia remarked.

The STC’s ongoing role will be critical in ensuring that these reforms continue to deliver long-term benefits to the people of Ebonyi.
