Gov. Nwifuru Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum to Striking Workers

Date:

The nationwide labor strike, protesting the delayed implementation of the new minimum wage, brought civil service operations to a standstill in several states, including Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and the Federal Capital Territory.

In response, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru issued a stern ultimatum to striking workers, threatening to withhold their salaries and replace them if they did not return to work within 72 hours.

The governor expressed frustration over the prolonged strike, insisting that the state government had fulfilled its obligations. He emphasized that he would not tolerate the disruption of public services and would take decisive action to ensure the smooth functioning of government operations.

The labor union, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress, has maintained its stance, demanding the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the standoff between the government and labor unions will be resolved.
