A member of the National Assembly representing Ohaozara-Onicha-Ivo Federal Constituency, Hon. Nkemkama Kama, has said opposition parties must continue to scrutinise the government and raise concerns if they want to remain relevant in a democratic system.
Kama made the statement on Thursday while speaking with journalists after the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally in Ivo Local Government Area, held ahead of the August 22, 2026 local government elections in Ebonyi State.
The lawmaker described the accusations and counter-accusations between opposition parties and the ruling APC as a normal feature of democracy. However, he urged opposition politicians to ensure that their criticisms were constructive, factual and supported by evidence.
According to him, the APC-led administration would rather respond to allegations with records and verifiable projects than engage in political propaganda.
“Our own is not to go into certain maps. We shouldn’t dwell on propaganda. We put facts for them. That’s the way to answer propaganda,” Kama said.
He acknowledged that no government was perfect and encouraged the media and opposition parties to recognise areas where the administration had performed well while pointing out shortcomings constructively.
Kama also praised Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, crediting him with bringing different political stakeholders together and contributing to the relative peace in the state.
The lawmaker described Nwifuru as possessing “native intelligence” and said his ability to manage diverse political interests had helped strengthen cooperation among stakeholders.
He stressed that peace and security remain critical to development in Ebonyi State, noting that political instability could discourage investment, infrastructure development and economic activities.
“Peace is the fundamental, the bedroom of every development you can think of. Without peace, people will not gather here. Without peace, you cannot even go for this rally,” he said.

Kama further urged residents to remain patient with the government’s development programmes, saying some projects and policies would deliver greater benefits with time.
The Executive Chairman of Ivo LGA, Chief Emmanuel Ajah, also commended Governor Nwifuru and other stakeholders for maintaining peace in the area.
Ajah said his administration had prioritised infrastructure, education, security, empowerment and community reconciliation. He listed completed markets, bridges, roads, courts and other public facilities among the council’s achievements.
He added that the local government had supported students and graduates through educational interventions while providing logistics and infrastructure support to security agencies.
The council chairman urged residents to protect the prevailing peace and resist attempts to exploit political differences to create instability.
The APC State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, urged the people of Ivo to reject what he called the “politics of gambling” and uphold zoning, equity and political rotation.
Emegha said the Nwifuru administration’s People’s Charter of Needs had recorded interventions in infrastructure, education, peacebuilding and human capital development.
He called on voters to support APC candidates in the August 22, 2026 local government elections, arguing that the party remained committed to grassroots development.
Governor Nwifuru, represented by his Deputy, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, also presented the APC flag to the party’s chairmanship candidate for Ivo LGA.
The deputy governor urged residents to remain united and support candidates capable of sustaining the administration’s development agenda at the grassroots.
The rally attracted politicians, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, students, academics, business operators and market women, with party leaders using the gathering to mobilise support ahead of the local government election.
Stakeholders at the event maintained that political stability and peace are essential to Ebonyi’s economic and infrastructural development, urging residents to avoid actions capable of triggering unnecessary political crisis as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections.
