The Ebonyi State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media video alleging that bandits and suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded Nguzu community in Edda LGA, describing the claim as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic.
In an official statement issued in Abakaliki, Police Public Relations Officer SP Joshua Ukandu said the viral footage did not originate from Ebonyi State. He explained that upon receiving reports of the video, the Commissioner of Police ordered immediate verification through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Edda Division.
To ensure public safety, tactical units were also deployed from the State Command Headquarters to comb the bushes and surrounding areas of Nguzu community. After a thorough security sweep, the police confirmed that no bandits or armed herders were found in the area.
The Command firmly stated that the information circulating online was fabricated to incite fear and disrupt peace in the community.
Residents of Nguzu Edda were therefore urged to ignore the viral claims and continue their normal activities without fear, as security operatives have maintained adequate surveillance across the region.
The Commissioner of Police reassured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property throughout Ebonyi State, while encouraging the public to report any suspicious movements or security concerns to the nearest police station or through the official control room line.
The police also advised citizens to remain vigilant and avoid sharing unverified information that could trigger tension or insecurity in peaceful communities.
