The Nigeria Police Force in Ebonyi State has begun an investigation into the suspected ritual killing of a 23-year-old woman, Caroline Agama.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, said the crime, which reportedly occurred in March, is now under active investigation.
According to Ukandu, the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit has taken over the case to track down and arrest those responsible for the killing.
The victim’s father, Dennis Agama, alleged that his daughter was murdered by suspected ritualists in the state. He explained that Caroline went missing from their home on March 26, prompting an extensive search by family members and residents.
“We searched everywhere, including nearby bushes and around the community, but could not find her,” he said.
He added that the search ended tragically two days later when Caroline’s body was discovered along Iboko Road in Izzi Local Government Area.
The elderly father claimed that his daughter may have been lured out of the house through a phone call from the suspects.
He also alleged that the perpetrators seized and switched off her phone to prevent any form of communication before carrying out the crime.
“Caroline Ndidiamaka was my only daughter. Before this incident happened, she was preparing to sit for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination at Jordan Secondary School,” he said.
Agama appealed to the government and security agencies to ensure that justice is served and those responsible are brought to book.
Caroline’s brother, Christopher, also expressed deep concern over the brutal manner in which his sister was killed.
He revealed that during the search on March 28, someone called him using the deceased’s phone number and claimed that the device had been found at Iboko Market Square.
“While trying to arrange how to retrieve the phone, the caller suddenly changed his story and began giving misleading information,” Christopher explained.
He urged authorities to intensify investigations, identify the perpetrators, and ensure justice for their family.
