FG Funds Constituency Projects, Not Lawmakers – Rep Igariwey Clarifies

Date:

The member representing Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Iduma Igariwey, has clarified that constituency projects attracted to his district are funded by the Federal Government, not by lawmakers.

Speaking in response to criticisms circulating on social media about alleged unexecuted federal projects in the constituency, the Ebonyi lawmaker explained that members of the National Assembly only facilitate the inclusion of projects in the federal budget, while funding and implementation remain the responsibility of the Federal Government.

Igariwey noted that many projects across the country remain stalled when the Federal Government fails to release funds for their execution. According to him, this has been the situation with several projects tied to the 2024 and 2025 federal budgets.

He urged critics to better understand how constituency projects work before making public claims.

According to the lawmaker, it is widely known that federal lawmakers do not directly finance these projects. Instead, they lobby for them to be included in the budget, after which the Federal Government provides the funds required for contractors to carry out the work.

Igariwey added that he has consistently informed constituents that every project he attracts to Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State depends on federal funding for implementation.

He stressed that the absence of funding from the Federal Government is the major reason some constituency projects have not yet been executed.
