Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has issued a three-month ultimatum to commissioners overseeing key ministries to complete all ongoing government projects or face sanctions.
The affected ministries include Works, Infrastructure, Water Resources, Environment, Commerce and Industry, Housing, and Special Duties.
The directive was made public by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebeh, while briefing journalists on resolutions reached at the latest State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting.
According to Omebeh, EXCO conducted a comprehensive assessment of ongoing projects across the state and resolved that ministries must prioritize immediate completion within the stipulated three-month timeframe.
“Following a detailed review of state projects, EXCO directed all relevant ministries—particularly Works, Infrastructure, Environment, Commerce and Industry, Water Resources, Housing, and Special Duties—to ensure the completion of ongoing projects within three months. Failure to comply will attract strict sanctions,” he stated.
Governor Nwifuru also used the occasion to swear in newly appointed officials, including two members of the State Civil Service Commission, a Special Assistant on Media, and the Secretary of the Rural Electrification Board. He charged them to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and commitment to public service.
On rural development, Omebeh disclosed that the governor mandated the Chairman and Secretary of the Rural Electrification Board to accelerate the provision of electricity to rural communities, describing it as a critical strategy to reduce rural-urban migration and stimulate grassroots economic growth.
The EXCO further approved the constitution of a three-member committee to review a proposed bill seeking to prohibit the buying and selling of metals and electric scraps within Ebonyi State, citing security and infrastructure protection concerns.
Providing an update on the state’s foreign scholarship programme, the commissioner revealed that the first batch of beneficiaries has completed their master’s degree programmes and is transitioning to PhD studies, while other shortlisted students are expected to depart for their studies by September 2026.
The latest directives, Omebeh noted, reflect Governor Nwifuru’s administration’s commitment to timely project delivery, rural development, infrastructure growth, and academic advancement for Ebonyi State indigenes
