Ebonyi Assembly Confirms Two Commissioner Nominees for State Executive Council

Date:

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of two commissioner-designates, clearing the way for their appointment into the Ebonyi State Executive Council.

The confirmation followed a formal request submitted by Governor Francis Nwifuru, who sought legislative approval for the appointments of Prof. Amari Omaka and Nwenugwu Nwite as commissioners in his administration.

Prof. Omaka, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), previously served as Ebonyi State Commissioner for Higher Education. He left office about six months ago after tensions arising from a communal conflict between the Amasiri and Okporojo communities in Edda Local Government Area.

Nwenugwu Nwite is a former member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. Legislative records indicate that he was elected into the Assembly in 2007, although his tenure ended in 2008 following a court ruling that nullified his election.

In accordance with the Assembly’s standing procedures, both nominees were invited into the chamber, introduced to lawmakers, and asked to take a bow before exiting, having previously undergone legislative screening and held public offices.

Following deliberations, lawmakers unanimously approved Governor Nwifuru’s request, confirming the two nominees for appointment as commissioners.

The newly confirmed commissioner-designates are expected to be sworn in later this week and formally join the Ebonyi State Executive Council as the administration continues efforts to strengthen governance and service delivery across the state.
