The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the Coordinator of Amasiri Development Centre in Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr. Anya Baron-Ogbonnia, in connection with the killing of four persons in Edda Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this on Monday in Abakaliki during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to Ukandu, the arrest was carried out through a coordinated security operation involving the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
He further revealed that two traditional rulers from Amasiri community in Afikpo LGA—identified as Onyaidam Bassey and Godfrey Oko-Obia—have also been taken into custody in relation to the incident.
The police spokesperson noted that ten suspects had earlier been arrested as investigations into the violent incident continue.
Background findings indicate that the violence is linked to a long-standing land dispute between Okporojor village in Oso Edda community, Edda LGA, and neighbouring Amasiri community in Afikpo LGA.
The attack, which occurred on January 29, 2026, reportedly resulted in the death of four residents, alongside the destruction of houses and other properties in Okporojor village.
Providing an update, Ukandu said all suspects currently arrested are in police custody and undergoing investigation.
He assured that the Ebonyi State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in the killings are identified and brought to justice.
