Ebonyi State Government is set to inaugurate the second batch of beneficiaries of its United Kingdom scholarship scheme, as 98 indigenes prepare to proceed for postgraduate studies abroad.
The inauguration, scheduled for 12:00 noon today at the Chuba Okadigbo International and Cargo Airport, Ezza, marks another milestone in the state’s drive for educational advancement and human capital development.
According to information released by the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Leo Ekene Oketa, six of the scholars will depart in September in line with the resumption of their academic programmes, while the remaining 92 beneficiaries are expected to travel immediately, with some leaving today and others within the week.
The scholarship programme was initiated by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru a little over a year ago, during which 204 Ebonyians were sponsored to pursue Master’s and PhD degrees in the United Kingdom. The initiative covers full tuition, accommodation, and living allowances, a structure designed to allow beneficiaries focus fully on academic excellence.
Findings from the first batch indicate positive outcomes, with several Master’s degree beneficiaries completing their programmes with distinctions and strong academic performance. The state government describes this as evidence of the effectiveness of sustained investment in education.
The scholarship scheme is part of a broader strategy by the Ebonyi State Government to position the state for global relevance through the development of skilled manpower and future leaders. Officials note that the programme is not a one-time intervention but a long-term roadmap aimed at building a knowledgeable, competitive, and globally connected workforce.
The event is open to invited guests and stakeholders, as the state continues to emphasize education as a key pillar for sustainable socio-economic transformation.
