After 17 years on the run, a notorious drug trafficker from Ebonyi State, Ogbonnaya Kevin Jeff, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The 59-year-old, originally from Edda, was apprehended at his hideout in Ojo, Lagos, on February 12, 2025.
At a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, March 3, 2025, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), revealed that Jeff was tracked through an Interpol red notice and intelligence from South Korea’s National Intelligence Service. He had served a one-year prison sentence in South Korea in 2007 before being deported in 2008 but resumed trafficking methamphetamine into the country between 2023 and 2024.
Jeff allegedly recruited young Nigerians as drug couriers and laundered proceeds through electronics importation. A search of his residence uncovered multiple Nigerian passports with South Korean visas and a stash of illicit substances.
Gen. Marwa hailed the arrest as a major breakthrough in NDLEA’s fight against drug trafficking, vowing continued collaboration with international agencies to dismantle such networks.
