Chief Ezekiel Nwifuru Nwankpu was formally crowned as the traditional ruler of Oferekpe Agbaja Autonomous Community on Saturday, an event that drew significant attention in Ebonyi State. A farmer with 19 wives (17 of whom he currently lives with) and 108 children, Eze Nwankpu is the father of the current Governor of Ebonyi, Chief Francis Nwifuru. This coronation ceremony took place at the Oferekpe Agbaja Primary School, located in Izzi Local Government Area, where Nwankpu was officially presented to the community by their leadership and was given the staff of office.
The event was led by Chief Godwin Ogbaga, a former minister, who praised Nwankpu’s contributions to the development of the Izhi clan. Ogbaga credited the successful coronation to the governor’s efforts in establishing the legal framework that allowed for such traditional appointments. He applauded the community for selecting Nwankpu, recognizing his integrity, honor, and leadership capabilities.
Additionally, Ogbaga reminded the community that traditional rulers serve for life and are not political appointees. He urged Nwankpu to continue fostering peace and development in the community.
Historically, Nwankpu’s father, now the state governor, married later in life, a decision influenced by earlier personal hardships and feelings of loneliness and social rejection.
