Ebonyi LG Election 2026: APC Launches Campaign, Urges PVC Collection and Peaceful Polls Ahead of August 22

Date:

The APC has officially flagged off campaigns for the August 22, 2026 Ebonyi local government elections, urging peaceful electioneering, grassroots mobilisation and increased PVC collection across the state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially commenced its statewide campaign for the August 22, 2026 Ebonyi Local Government elections, with party leaders urging supporters to embrace peaceful campaigns, intensify grassroots mobilisation and encourage eligible voters to obtain and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The campaign flag-off took place on Monday in Ikwo Local Government Area, where Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Deputy Governor Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, presented the APC flag to the party’s chairmanship candidate for Ikwo LGA, Henry Chidi Nwode, alongside his running mate, officially signalling the start of campaigns for the council elections.

Addressing party members, Obila described the APC candidates as experienced and capable leaders, urging supporters to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than negative politics.

She encouraged party faithful to take the campaign to every community while promoting the achievements of the APC administration, expressing confidence that the candidates possess the capacity to deliver quality leadership at the grassroots level.

The deputy governor also commended the outgoing Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Barrister Sunday Nwankwo, for fostering peace, unity and development during his administration, noting that his leadership had created a solid foundation for continuity.

Former Ebonyi State Governor Chief Martin Elechi, who chaired the event, appealed to political parties and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electioneering period.

Elechi stressed that democracy guarantees every citizen the constitutional right to belong to any political party of their choice, warning against intimidation, violence or any action capable of disrupting public peace.

He expressed optimism that the APC would record victory in the forthcoming local government elections, citing public support for Governor Nwifuru’s administration while reminding supporters to remain law-abiding throughout the campaign.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Moses Odunwa, called on party members to remain united and work collectively to secure victory for APC candidates across the state.

He further encouraged residents to participate actively in the electoral process and ensure peaceful conduct before, during and after the polls.

Representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Comrade Chinedu Ogah described the event as the beginning of extensive political mobilisation across Ebonyi State.

He urged eligible voters to obtain and protect their PVCs ahead of the election, stressing that every vote would be significant in determining the outcome of the August 22 council polls.

According to Ogah, the campaign launch also signals preparations for future political contests, including the 2027 general elections.

The APC Ebonyi State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, appreciated the people of Ikwo for their continued support for the ruling party, maintaining that the APC enjoys widespread acceptance across the local government.

He expressed confidence that the party would secure victory in the forthcoming election due to its strong grassroots support.

Speaking on behalf of members of the State Executive Council, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Ben Odoh, reaffirmed the commitment of commissioners to Governor Nwifuru’s administration, describing Ikwo as one of the party’s strongest political bases.

Similarly, the Director-General of the APC Local Government Campaign Council for Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, Ambassador Franklin Ogbuewu, expressed confidence that Governor Nwifuru would continue to enjoy overwhelming public support in the state.

The outgoing Executive Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Barrister Sunday Nwankwo, said the decision to begin the statewide campaign in Ikwo reflected the confidence the party leadership has in the people of the area.

He attributed the APC’s growing popularity to Governor Nwifuru’s developmental initiatives and assured party leaders of overwhelming electoral support during the council election and future contests.

Receiving the APC flag, chairmanship candidate Henry Chidi Nwode thanked Governor Nwifuru, party leaders and the people of Ikwo for the confidence reposed in him.

He described his candidacy as an opportunity for greater public service and pledged to operate an inclusive, transparent and accountable administration if elected.

Nwode promised to build on the achievements of the outgoing administration by prioritising rural infrastructure, healthcare delivery, quality education, agricultural development, youth and women empowerment, as well as strengthening community-based security initiatives.

He also assured supporters that his campaign would remain issue-driven and focused on grassroots engagement across all wards in Ikwo Local Government Area.

In separate goodwill messages, APC Youth Leader in Ikwo, Uchenna Nwanchor, National President of the Ikwo Consultative Forum, Onyinyechi Nwankwo, and other stakeholders pledged sustained mobilisation efforts to ensure the party records a decisive victory in the 2026 Ebonyi local government elections.
