The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) has openly opposed the possibility of Governor Francis Nwifuru securing a second term in office, raising concerns over what it described as inadequate development across the state.
The group’s position comes amid increasing political discussions ahead of the 2027 Ebonyi governorship election. AEISCID’s reaction followed comments reportedly made by Ebonyi State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oguzor Nwali, who questioned the credibility of the diaspora organisation and dismissed its earlier criticisms of the current administration.
In a statement signed by its Worldwide President, Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu, AEISCID challenged the commissioner and the state government to provide verifiable evidence of Governor Nwifuru’s achievements since assuming office.
The group argued that despite increased federal allocations to Ebonyi State in recent years, several major projects announced by the government remain unfinished and have yet to deliver meaningful benefits to residents.
According to AEISCID, independent assessments and visits by media representatives to various project sites failed to reveal sufficient evidence of completed flagship projects that could justify the administration’s performance claims.
Among the projects highlighted by the organisation were the Vanco Flyover and Tunnel Project, the ICT University located in Oferekpe Agbaja, and housing developments designed for civil servants. The group alleged that these projects remain incomplete despite government assurances.
AEISCID further accused the administration of prioritising political activities over critical infrastructure and economic development initiatives.
The organisation maintained that voters should carefully assess the governor’s performance before considering any support for his re-election bid in 2027.
The diaspora group also compared Ebonyi’s development trajectory with those of neighbouring states, arguing that other state governments are investing heavily in transportation, economic growth, and large-scale infrastructure projects capable of driving long-term development.
Reacting to comments credited to Commissioner Nwali, AEISCID described the official’s response as unprofessional and urged him to improve the quality of public communications issued on behalf of the government.
The organisation advised the commissioner to engage professional writers and editors when responding to public issues to avoid what it called unnecessary controversies.
The latest exchange highlights growing political tension in Ebonyi State as political groups and stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Government had not released any fresh statement responding to AEISCID’s latest allegations regarding governance and project implementation.
