Date:

The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested six individuals allegedly connected to the killing of the traditional ruler of Ishinkwo Community, HRH Eze Josephat Nnanna Ikegwu, in a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.

According to a statement released on Tuesday in Abakaliki by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the arrests followed extensive intelligence-driven operations carried out by security personnel across the state.

The suspects identified as Ucha Johnson, Ogobuchi Igwe, Nkpuma Nwankwo, Edwin Onwoshi, Itumo Joseph, and Emmanuel Nwaoba were reportedly apprehended for their alleged involvement in the murder of the Ebonyi monarch.

Police authorities further disclosed that operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with eight live rounds of ammunition during the operation.

Reports indicate that the traditional ruler was attacked and killed at his residence on April 2, 2026, an incident that generated widespread concern and heightened tension within the community.

Reacting to the development, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Hope Urunwa Okafor, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to ensure every individual connected to the crime is identified and prosecuted.

She also assured residents of the police command’s continued efforts to strengthen security measures, combat violent crimes, and maintain peace across Ebonyi State.

Authorities stated that the suspects will face prosecution after investigations are completed.
