Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state of adequate security and a conducive environment to successfully complete their one-year national assignment.
The governor gave the assurance during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 NYSC Batch B Stream 1 corps members posted to Ebonyi State, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains a major focus of his administration.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Mr Hillary Obiesie, Nwifuru said sustainable growth and development could only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
According to him, the state government has continued to strengthen its security framework through strategic investments, community engagement, and measures aimed at safeguarding residents and visitors.
He described Ebonyi as one of the peaceful states in Nigeria, noting that the security situation in the state has created an enabling environment for citizens, investors, visitors, and young professionals.
“International travel advisories, including those from the United States, have not classified Ebonyi as a high-risk destination. This reflects the relative peace and stability experienced in the state,” he said.
The governor attributed the state’s security achievements to the combined efforts of security agencies, traditional institutions, and responsible citizens.
He encouraged the corps members to make their service year impactful by demonstrating discipline, innovation, excellence, and commitment to national development.
“You are expected to serve as ambassadors of unity, agents of progress, and examples of values that will contribute to building a better Nigeria,” he added.
Meanwhile, the NYSC Coordinator in Ebonyi State, Mrs Maidariya Malgwi, announced that 1,160 corps members—comprising 561 males and 599 females—had completed registration for the orientation programme.
She welcomed the corps members to Ebonyi and urged them to actively participate in camp activities while embracing opportunities for personal growth, discipline, learning, and service.
One of the corps members, Mr Patrick Jacobs, expressed gratitude for their safe arrival in Ebonyi and pledged their commitment to contributing positively to the development of the state.
