The Ebonyi State Government has inaugurated a special task force and monitoring team to supervise the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) across the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Donatus Chukwuma Ilang, said the committee was created to monitor students, school principals, invigilators, and other stakeholders involved in the conduct of the examination to ensure full compliance with WAEC rules and examination guidelines.
Speaking during the inauguration in Abakaliki, the commissioner urged members of the anti-exam malpractice team to maintain integrity and uphold the reputation of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Education by enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against examination malpractice.
He warned officials against accepting bribes or compromising standards through negligence, stressing that all monitoring activities must strictly follow WAEC regulations and government directives.
Dr. Ilang further directed the monitoring team to carry out thorough supervision across examination centres and ensure that anyone caught engaging in examination malpractice is arrested and handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
Responding on behalf of the committee, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mary Ngozi Otozi, commended the commissioner for his efforts to restore discipline, transparency, and credibility within the education sector in Ebonyi State.
She assured residents that the team would discharge its duties professionally and ensure effective monitoring of schools throughout the WAEC examination period.
According to the ministry, the monitoring team has been divided across Ebonyi Central, Ebonyi North, and Ebonyi South senatorial zones, with security personnel attached to support operations and curb examination malpractice during the ongoing WAEC exams.
