Ebonyi Police Commissioner Warns Officers Over Social Media Conduct Ahead of Election Season

Date:

The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Hope Okafor, has cautioned police officers and personnel in the state to maintain professionalism and exercise caution in their use of social media platforms.

Speaking during a meeting with officers of the Ebonyi State Command on Tuesday, the CP stressed that the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy remains active and must be strictly followed by all personnel.

According to Okafor, the directive followed a recent meeting between the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, and members of the Force Management Team.

She also reminded officers that the Federal Government’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from unauthorized VIP duties is still in effect and must be obeyed without exception.

The Ebonyi Police Commissioner further reiterated the IGP’s vision of building a transparent, accountable, and community-friendly police force across the country.

Okafor directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to display their official contact numbers prominently within their offices and divisions to improve public access and strengthen trust between the police and residents.

She urged senior officers to sustain regular engagement with communities and continually educate junior officers on civility, discipline, and professionalism while interacting with members of the public.

The CP also emphasized the importance of proper dressing and identification, warning officers to wear their uniforms with dignity and ensure their names and identification tags are clearly visible at all times.

“In this regard, I direct the Assistant Commissioner of Police, X-Squad, to intensify monitoring of officers across the command and ensure erring personnel are sanctioned accordingly,” she stated.

Okafor additionally warned officers to avoid misconduct on social media, noting that inappropriate online behavior could damage the image of the Force.

With the 2027 election season drawing closer, the Commissioner charged Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders to strengthen intelligence gathering within their areas of responsibility and sustain raids on criminal hideouts and black spots across Ebonyi State to improve security.
