The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has dismissed speculations suggesting that he plans to impose candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, assuring that the political process in the state will remain open and fair.
He gave the assurance during the solemnization of the holy matrimony between his younger brother, Paulinus Nwifuru, and his bride, Immaculata, held at the Government House Chapel, Abakaliki.
The Governor clarified that he has not committed his support to any aspirant, except for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the President has shown consistent support to Ebonyi State. He also mentioned his backing for Goodluck Obinna Mbam in the State House of Assembly race, saying the candidate already has the endorsement of his constituents.
According to him, political aspirants must be cautious in their conduct and public statements, warning that unnecessary tension could heat up the political environment. He urged contenders to remain calm and trust in due process.
“You can only be there when God says so. Let us remain calm and humble,” he advised.
Governor Nwifuru further announced plans to engage stakeholders across the state in a series of consultations aimed at ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process. He disclosed that zonal meetings will begin midweek and continue through the week, where key political discussions will take place.
He explained that the meetings will cover positions for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly, as well as the governorship race.
However, he made it clear that the presidential race will not be part of the discussions, reaffirming his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that his administration has initiated projects in Ebonyi State and will complete and commission them.
“We are giving him our votes 100 percent,” he added.
The statement was signed by Dr. Monday Uzor, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ebonyi State.
