Hon. Chinedu Ogah, the lawmaker representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State, has reaffirmed his commitment to using the Aji Ereke cultural festival to promote tourism and strengthen community unity.
Speaking during the 2026 Aji Ereke Festival held in Amagu, Ikwo Local Government Area, Ogah emphasized the importance of the annual event in preserving cultural heritage and driving local tourism development in Ebonyi State.
The federal lawmaker, who also chairs the House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, described the Aji Ereke Festival as a significant tradition that marks the beginning of the farming season while fostering peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion among the people.
He assured residents of continued support to sustain and expand the festival, commending traditional institutions and community leaders for preserving the cultural celebration over the years.
According to Ogah, the festival serves as a platform to promote unity, cultural identity, and economic opportunities through tourism.
As part of his intervention, the lawmaker announced the award of university scholarships to 10 beneficiaries from each of the four wards in Amagu community, reinforcing his commitment to education and youth development.
Ogah also praised Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for delivering democratic dividends and supporting grassroots development across the state.
In his remarks, Senator Kenneth Eze, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, commended the people of Amagu for preserving their cultural heritage, noting that culture remains a vital identity marker for any society.
Similarly, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Mathias Adum, stressed that societies that neglect their cultural values risk losing their identity, urging residents to uphold and promote their traditions.
The Aji Ereke Festival featured vibrant cultural displays, traditional dances, masquerade performances, and gift exchanges, attracting dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, and cultural groups.
Notable attendees included Professor Patrick Itumoh, Chairman of Amagu Development Union; Chief Itapa Azobu, APC Zonal Secretary; Eze Martin Onyibe, Chairman of Ezza Traditional Rulers Council; and Mrs. Chinasa Nwanchor, Coordinator of Ikwo South Development Union.
The event further highlighted the role of cultural festivals in boosting tourism, preserving heritage, and fostering unity in Ebonyi State.
