Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has released a total of N101.895 million as compensation to families, property owners, and herdsmen affected by the February 2, 2025 clash in Nkalaha community, Ishielu Local Government Area.
The violent incident resulted in multiple deaths, serious injuries, destruction of homes, and loss of livestock. Speaking through his deputy, Mrs. Patricia Obila, during the official launch of the payment exercise, Governor Nwifuru said the financial support was aimed at helping victims rebuild their lives and fostering lasting peace in the area.
Compensation breakdown:
- N36 million to 18 bereaved families (N2 million each)
- N41 million to owners of 41 destroyed buildings (N1 million each)
- N4 million to four motorcycle owners (N1 million each)
- N816,000 as reimbursement for documented cash losses
- N20 million to Miyetti Allah leadership for livestock losses
Obila advised recipients to put the funds to good use and assured them that the state government would continue to provide infrastructure and social amenities to aid recovery.
Chairman of Ishielu LGA, Mrs. Peace Agwu, praised the governor’s swift intervention, confirming that peace had been restored in the community.
Gidado Siddiki, National Deputy Director-General of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), expressed gratitude to the state government and pledged the association’s continued commitment to peaceful coexistence.
“Peace is not just the absence of conflict — it is the presence of trust,” Siddiki stated.
