President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of six campuses for the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. The move is aimed at expanding aviation training, boosting manpower development, and reducing dependence on foreign aviation schools.
The newly approved NCAT campuses will be sited in the following locations:
- Akure (South-West)
- Osubi (South-South)
- Ebonyi State (South-East)
- Ilorin (North-Central)
- Yola (North-East)
- Zaria (North-West, headquarters)
This decentralization means the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology will now have a stronger presence nationwide, making aviation education more accessible to students across the regions.
The choice of Ebonyi State as the Southeast campus is seen as a landmark development. With the newly commissioned Chuba Okadigbo International Airport at Onueke, the state is positioned to become a hub for aviation training, job creation, and regional economic growth.
Stakeholders believe that the presence of the aviation college in Ebonyi will encourage young people to pursue careers in aviation, ranging from pilot training to aviation engineering and air traffic management.
Established in 1964, the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria is the country’s premier aviation school. With this expansion into six campuses, NCAT is expected to train more aviation professionals and strengthen Nigeria’s role as a leader in African aviation training.
