Ebonyi’s New University: A Positive Step, But What About Existing Campuses?

Date:

The approval of the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science, and Technology is a commendable development, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing educational access and fostering a technology-driven future.

However, this advancement brings to light a crucial question: What about the ongoing challenges faced by our existing institutions?

A notable concern can be seen at Presco Campus, particularly within the Faculty of Basic Medicine, which houses departments such as Human Anatomy and Medical Physiology. Graduates from this faculty have faced delays exceeding two years in receiving their statements of results and being mobilized for the NYSC program. These delays are not merely administrative inconveniences but significant barriers to the graduates’ professional progression.

While the creation of new universities is an important step forward, addressing the issues within our current institutions should be equally prioritized. Graduates deserve a timely and efficient system that supports their transition from education to the workforce.

As we celebrate the establishment of this new university, it is imperative for the government to also focus on resolving the challenges faced by existing campuses. Only by doing so can we ensure a more robust and effective education system for the state.
