Governor Nwifuru Advocates Community Policing as Key to Crime Control in Ebonyi

Date:

Amid ongoing security challenges nationwide, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has emphasized community policing as a complementary strategy to conventional policing, describing it as the most effective approach to crime prevention.

During a courtesy visit by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Suleman Yusuf, at the Government House in Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru commended the Nigerian Police Force for maintaining peace in the state. He advocated for the establishment of community policing, citing its ability to leverage local knowledge and terrain familiarity to combat crime effectively.

The Governor attributed Ebonyi’s peaceful atmosphere to the synergy between the police and the state government, stressing that community policing would further enhance security efforts across the country.

Highlighting the importance of recognizing exemplary performance, Nwifuru called for a reward system to motivate officers who risk their lives in service to the nation.

“Community policing is essential because understanding the local terrain is a prerequisite for effective crime prevention. I have personally recognized and rewarded outstanding officers to encourage dedication and commitment,” he stated.

In his remarks, AIG Suleman Yusuf expressed gratitude for the state government’s support of the police and noted that Ebonyi remains one of the most peaceful states in the zone. He appealed to other stakeholders to collaborate in improving security.

Governor Nwifuru’s endorsement of community policing underscores its potential to bolster national security and promote lasting peace in communities.
