Ebonyi Spends N15 Billion on Scholarships, Cautions Beneficiaries Against Misconduct

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has cautioned beneficiaries of the state’s scholarship program studying abroad to avoid actions that could tarnish their reputation and the state’s image. The governor specifically warned them not to emulate Simon Ekpa, a controversial figure and leader within the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), recently arrested in Finland on terrorism-related charges.

Speaking at the launch of the state’s scholarship scheme at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke, Ezza South, Governor Nwifuru highlighted that Ebonyi State has invested over N15 billion in scholarships. He expressed regret over the earlier decision to send Ekpa abroad for studies, emphasizing the need for current beneficiaries to be exemplary ambassadors.
