Masquerade Activities Must Not Disrupt Public Order – Ebonyi Police

Date:

The Ebonyi State Police Command has issued a stern warning to residents to refrain from using masquerade activities to violate others’ rights or disrupt traffic flow during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, relayed the warning from the Commissioner of Police, Anthonia Uche-Anya. The statement emphasized that violators of the law would face strict penalties.

Commissioner Uche-Anya also urged the public to avoid fireworks and other explosive devices during the festive period to prevent fire outbreaks and panic caused by loud noises.

“The command reminds everyone to refrain from using firecrackers (bangers) due to their associated risks. Actions by masqueraders or any other group should not obstruct traffic or violate the rights of others. Those who do so will face the consequences,” she said.

The commissioner highlighted the importance of civility in law enforcement, urging officers to avoid extortion and corruption. She disclosed that a security briefing had been held with senior officers, including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders, to ensure proper supervision and enhanced deployments during the festive season.

The police reassured residents of adequate security measures throughout the celebrations, emphasizing the need for a peaceful and orderly Yuletide.
