Osborn Umahi, the 28-year-old son of Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, has officially assumed office as Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Osborn Umahi was inaugurated on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following his victory in the August 22 Ebonyi State local government election, where he contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The swearing-in ceremony was administered by Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru and witnessed by several political leaders, government officials and other dignitaries, including Osborn’s father, David Umahi..
With the inauguration, Osborn formally begins his tenure as the Ohaozara Local Government Chairman, taking charge of the council’s administration and grassroots governance.
During his election campaign, Osborn outlined several priorities for the development of Ohaozara Local Government Area.
His agenda includes improving infrastructure, empowering young people, supporting local businesses and strengthening the delivery of basic public services to residents.
The newly inaugurated chairman also made a notable commitment to public service, promising to donate his salary and allowances throughout his tenure.
According to his campaign pledge, the decision was aimed at demonstrating that his motivation for seeking public office was service to the people rather than financial gain.

Osborn Umahi is an engineer and businessman. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom before earning a master’s degree in Finance and Investment Management from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
His father, David Umahi, was Governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023. He was subsequently appointed Minister of Works by the Federal Government.
At 28, Osborn’s assumption of office makes him one of the younger local government chairmen in Ebonyi State, with his tenure now set to be closely watched as he begins implementing his development agenda for Ohaozara.
