The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi State has called on security agencies to intensify investigations into the killing of Elder Onwe Ubochi and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
The party made the call on Thursday during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased at Osege, Umuogudu Oshia Ngbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The delegation was led by APGA’s 2027 Ebonyi North Senatorial District candidate, Chief Chikaodili Ojimba, alongside the party’s candidate for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Barrister Tochukwu Ogalagu, popularly known as T-Man, and other party leaders.
Ubochi was reportedly killed by suspected assailants after participating in a political activity in the area. His death has generated concern among APGA supporters, youths and residents of Ohaukwu.
During the visit, APGA also announced that it had adopted the deceased’s family, assuring them of continued support throughout their period of mourning.
Ojimba expressed sadness over the death, describing Ubochi as a member of the wider APGA family.
He appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to speed up the investigation and identify those behind the killing.
According to him, the bereaved family should not feel abandoned, stressing that APGA would continue to stand with them while efforts are made to secure justice for the deceased.
Ojimba also expressed confidence that the Ebonyi State Government and security authorities would treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
He maintained that a thorough investigation should be conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding Ubochi’s death and bring anyone found culpable to justice.
Speaking during the condolence visit, APGA’s candidate for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Tochukwu Ogalagu, said securing justice for Ubochi should be pursued through lawful means.
Ogalagu said he was aware that investigations had commenced and expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He called for the arrest and prosecution of anyone found to have participated in the killing.
However, the APGA candidate strongly cautioned supporters, youths and members of the deceased’s family against taking the law into their own hands.
Ogalagu urged anyone with useful information about the incident to provide it to the police or other appropriate security authorities rather than engaging in violence or retaliation.
He also disclosed that the Zelunjo Foundation and the wider Zelunjo family had adopted the bereaved family and would continue to support them.
The President of the Ohaukwu Youth General Assembly, Comrade Emmanuel Onah, said the killing had deeply affected youths in the local government area.
Onah assured that the youths would remain peaceful and law-abiding while allowing security agencies to complete their investigation.
He said the youths were looking forward to a credible outcome that would lead to justice for the deceased.
The deceased’s younger brother, Monday Ubochi, said the family remained devastated by the incident and appealed to the government and security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were identified and prosecuted.
He explained that Ubochi had attended a political event in the community before he was later reported missing.
According to him, the family subsequently discovered that the elderly man had been killed.
Monday said the deceased was believed to be between 76 and 80 years old and was eventually found close to a river.
He appealed to the authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring those responsible for the death to justice.
The killing comes amid heightened political activities in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with APGA and other political parties intensifying mobilisation across the state.
