The Nigerian Association of Industrial Pharmacists has announced that their decision to establish the Salt City Pharma Park in Ebonyi State was based on several factors, including the presence of essential infrastructure and the state’s attractiveness for investments.
The association emphasized that apart from infrastructure, the ample land space, accessibility of the project site, and its contiguous layout were additional reasons for selecting Ebonyi State in the South-East region as the location for the pharmaceutical hub.
During a meeting with Governor Francis Nwifuru in Abakaliki, Pharmacist Sam Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the Board of Salt City Pharma Park Development Company and former President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, revealed these details to reporters.
He explained, “We are here today to discuss the Salt City Pharma Park Development Company with Governor Nwifuru. This industrial hub is being established in Ntezi community, Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. We reached an agreement with the previous state government under Engr David Umahi to initiate this project and have since made progress in acquiring land and conducting preliminary studies.”
Ohuabunwa further highlighted the state government’s commitment to supporting the project and ensuring its success. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s assurances of continued assistance and expediting necessary processes to attract investors to the Pharma Park.
Regarding the selection of Ebonyi State, Ohuabunwa noted, “We explored opportunities across the country but found Ebonyi State to be the most responsive and accommodating. Former Governor Umahi’s proactive approach facilitated our initial steps. The strategic location, proximity to Enugu city, and access to transportation were key considerations.”
Addressing concerns about the viability of the investment in Ebonyi State, Ohuabunwa emphasized the importance of quality standards and international competitiveness. He stressed that the project aimed to foster collaboration among pharmaceutical stakeholders and streamline logistics within the industry.
Prof. Chimezie Anyakaora, a member of the Board representing Bloom Public Health, expressed enthusiasm for the progress of the project. He outlined the vision of creating a modern pharmaceutical industrial estate to meet Nigeria’s growing demand for medicines and improve the supply chain.
