An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been arrested in Ebonyi State for allegedly supplying firearms and ammunition to criminal groups operating within the state.
The arrest was carried out by troops of Operation UDO KA during an intelligence-led operation in Abakaliki on Friday, June 27, 2026.
According to security sources, the operation took place at a suspected criminal hideout disguised as an electronics repair workshop located at Anyanko Market along the Abakaliki–Enugu Expressway. The raid was launched following credible intelligence reports linking the facility to unlawful activities in the area.
During the operation, security personnel apprehended the NSCDC officer, who is attached to the Ebonyi State Command, over allegations of involvement in the illegal distribution of weapons and ammunition to criminal elements.
Sources revealed that preliminary questioning of the suspect provided investigators with useful leads, prompting a follow-up search at his residence.
The search reportedly led to the recovery of several weapons and security items, including an AK-47 rifle, a CS rifle, a magazine loaded with 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition, two empty AK-47 magazines, 58 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a jackknife, and a pair of handcuffs.
Military authorities have since taken the suspect and all recovered exhibits into custody. The case has been transferred to the 82 Provost Group for further investigation and possible legal action.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by Operation UDO KA and other security agencies to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and combat criminal activities across Ebonyi State and the South-East region.
