The management of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, has expelled three students over their alleged involvement in the unlawful possession of firearms.
The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Awoke, during the inauguration of the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives for the 2025/2026 academic session. The event took place on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the CAS Campus of the university.
Professor Awoke stated that the disciplinary action was intended to serve as a deterrent to other students who may engage in similar acts. He reiterated the university’s zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, and violence, stressing that anyone caught with weapons or involved in acts capable of endangering lives within the institution would be expelled.
According to reports, the expelled students were arrested with guns and live ammunition during the recently concluded Students’ Union Government election held at the university.
The management released the names of the affected students as follows:
- Azubuike Lawrence – Department of Medical Laboratory Science
- Enyinnaya Ibe Kenneth – Department of Architecture
- Njoku Joshua – Department of Animal Science
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed that EBSU remains committed to maintaining peace, security, and academic integrity, urging students to focus on their studies and uphold the values of the institution.
