Ebonyi Ranks 4th Nationwide in Fiscal Transparency Assessment

Date:

Ebonyi State has been ranked 4th in Nigeria in the Q2 2025 States Fiscal Transparency League Table released by BudgIT Foundation, placing the state among the leading performers in accountability and open governance.

The ranking, which reviewed all 36 states, assessed performance across several key indicators including the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), approved budgets, citizens’ budget, quarterly budget implementation reports, Accountant General’s financial statements, e-procurement portals, and availability of fiscal data online.

Ebonyi scored 99 out of a possible 102 points (97%), tying with Osun State for the fourth position. Only Ekiti, Gombe, and Kebbi performed higher.

This strong performance reflects Ebonyi’s efforts in publishing timely financial documents and ensuring citizens can access fiscal information with ease. The availability of budgetary data and procurement records on the state’s online platforms demonstrates progress in reducing opacity in governance and encouraging public participation.

In recent months, stakeholders in the state have called for more citizen-friendly tools that would make fiscal documents easier to understand and improve accountability at the grassroots. Observers believe that Ebonyi’s latest ranking places it in a strong position to aim for the top spot in subsequent transparency assessments.

With this recognition, Ebonyi joins the list of states setting national benchmarks in good governance—an achievement that many believe will boost confidence in the state’s management of public resources.
