Ebonyi Rolls Out Free 24-Hour Ambulance Service, Offers 48 Hours of Medical Support

Date:

The Ebonyi State Government has officially launched a free 24-hour ambulance service aimed at improving emergency healthcare delivery across Abakaliki Capital City and other local government areas.

The life-saving initiative, introduced by Governor Francis Nwifuru through the Ministry of Health, is designed to provide swift medical response and reduce preventable deaths.

According to the governor’s Special Assistant on Documentation, Dr. Boniface Nwankwo, the service covers Abakaliki, Ohaukwu, and Ivo LGAs, with five standby drivers assigned to each political ward, operating round the clock.

Residents can access the service by calling the toll-free hotline 112 or 08127989346. Emergencies covered under the programme include:

  • Pregnancy-related complications
  • Child health crises (under five years)
  • Snake bites
  • Gunshot injuries
  • Road traffic accidents

In addition, patients transported by the ambulances will receive 48 hours of free medical care, fully funded by the state government.

Governor Nwifuru stressed that the 24-hour ambulance service is part of his administration’s efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality and ensure unhindered access to quality healthcare in Ebonyi.

Residents were urged to use the emergency hotlines responsibly to prevent abuse of the service.

This bold step underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and safeguarding the well-being of all Ebonyians.
