Honourable Nkemkanma Kama, who represents Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has formally resigned from the Labour Party (LP).
In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of Amaze Ward, Ishiagu Community in Ivo Local Government Area, the lawmaker said his decision followed “extensive consultations with family members, political associates, and well-wishers.”
Kama, who won his seat in the 2023 general elections under the LP banner, explained that the move was taken “for the greater good of his people.” He also expressed gratitude to the Labour Party for the opportunity it provided him.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Labour Party for the platform given to me to contest and win the last general election as the House of Representatives member under its banner,” the lawmaker wrote.
Although he did not explicitly announce his next political base, there are strong indications that he is set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in the state.
His resignation comes amid a wave of defections linked to the leadership crisis within the Labour Party, which has seen several stakeholders in recent months leave for other political platforms.
This development is expected to reshape political alignments in Ebonyi as the state gears toward the next election cycle.
