Abakaliki FC has officially confirmed its return to the Nigeria National League (NNL) for the 2025/2026 season following their relegation last year.
Popularly known as The Rice Boys, the Ebonyi-based club secured a promotion slot from Hammola FC, granting them the opportunity to compete in Nigeria’s second-tier football division once again.
It will be recalled that Abakaliki FC suffered relegation to the Nationwide League One (NLO) at the end of the previous season.
Speaking to Journalist, the club’s media officer, Chukwuma Ogbonna-Torchlight, stated: “Abakaliki FC’s NNL status has just been confirmed for the 2025/26 season.”
Abakaliki FC gained national attention during the 2025 President Federation Cup, where they had a stellar campaign. The team reached the final but narrowly lost to Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Kwara United, falling 4-3 on penalties to finish as runners-up.
