Silas Onu, former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, has officially resigned from the party and declared his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Onu, who contested the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat during the February 4, 2024, rerun election under the PDP, announced his defection in a letter addressed to his Obiozara Ward chairman. The letter, obtained by our correspondent, cited unresolved internal issues and alleged interference by some PDP governors as key reasons for his exit.
According to Onu, “It is with a heavy heart, but in the interest of patriotism, that I tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect.”
Highlighting his contributions to the PDP, Onu recalled his time as State Publicity Secretary, later becoming State Chairman, and finally contesting as the party’s senatorial candidate. Despite these roles, he expressed dissatisfaction with the growing influence of certain party leaders, which he described as undermining internal democracy.
He urged his supporters to join him in embracing the ADC, which he believes offers a more stable and progressive political platform.
“I deeply appreciate your unwavering support throughout my time in the PDP. I invite you to continue this journey with me in the African Democratic Congress as we work together to build a stronger political future for our people,” Onu stated.
This move comes as opposition coalitions across the country begin to realign in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
