Two sisters from Ishiagu, a community in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have been arrested by security operatives in Enugu for allegedly arranging the kidnapping of their own elder brother.
The women, identified as Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, were said to have planned the abduction of Mr. Friday Chukwu, who was taken last month along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, near Ituku-Ozalla.
Sources revealed that Juliet is a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), while Ngozi serves with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Though their official status is still under verification, both are being investigated for their roles in multiple crimes.
According to findings, the family tragedy took a darker turn when a ransom of ₦30 million was allegedly paid for Mr. Chukwu’s release.
In a shocking twist, the two sisters are also being linked to the recent abduction of Engr. Dennis Igwe, the Community Liaison Officer for China Oriental Mining Company, who was kidnapped in the same area earlier this week. It was gathered that the suspects were arrested in a hotel while reportedly attempting to divide a ₦10 million ransom payment tied to that case.
Local reports have alleged the sisters’ involvement in other criminal activities in Ishiagu, including collusion with suspected kidnappers, vandalism of public infrastructure, and illicit deals with criminal elements operating within the area.
A concerned citizen and digital advocate, Comrade Chika Nwoba, has called on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Immigration Service to carry out a full internal investigation and take appropriate disciplinary actions if the suspects are confirmed to be their staff.
Ivo LGA Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Ajah, confirmed knowledge of the incident, noting that while the events happened in Enugu, his office has reached out to the Enugu Police Command and relevant agencies in Ebonyi State.
“We are deeply concerned by the incident, though it did not occur within our LGA boundaries. Our priority remains the safety of lives and property across Ivo,” he said.
Efforts to get a formal statement from police representatives in both Enugu and Ebonyi States were not successful as of the time of this report.
