Man Sells Brother’s Skull for ₦12,000 in Ebonyi

Date:

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ebonyi State has arrested a 52-year-old man for exhuming the corpse of his younger brother and selling the skull to a native doctor for ₦12,000. The suspect, identified as Ugoegu Nwaji, hails from Onunwakpu Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.

While addressing journalists at the NSCDC headquarters in Abakaliki, the State Commandant, Francis Nnadi, condemned the act and reiterated the command’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements from Ebonyi. He also emphasized that Ebonyi remains one of the safest states in Nigeria.

According to Nnadi, Nwaji confessed to exhuming the remains of his brother, Ogor Mmboyi, who died two years ago. He then sold the skull to a native doctor named Nwodo Nwenyi, who allegedly intended to use it for a money ritual known as “Okite.” Authorities confirmed that the skull was recovered from Nwenyi’s shrine during an operation.

In a separate incident, the NSCDC paraded three individuals accused of sabotaging a state government project by attempting to steal 68 bags of cement meant for a concrete road construction in Ekerigwe Village, Umuezekoha community, Ezza North LGA.

Those arrested include the site’s security personnel, a truck driver, and the procurement officer of the construction company involved. Out of the 68 bags of cement stolen, only 16 were successfully recovered by operatives of the Corps. The suspects are to be charged in court.

The Ebonyi NSCDC Command continues to warn residents against all forms of criminal activity, urging the public to support security efforts to maintain peace and safety across the state.
